SPH's Newspaper Launched Play and Win Gamification Campaign with qiksense

Published: 5 March 2026

SPH wanted to launch a play and win gamification campaign across their retail channels to increase sales of the Shin Min Daily News newspaper and acquire new customers.

The campaign was designed to reward customers with a chance to play and win for every newspaper purchased. This created an incentive for both existing and new customers to participate, helping to drive awareness, encourage purchases, and attract new readers through retail channels.

Through this gamified experience, SPH aimed to:

  • Increase Shin Min Daily newspaper sales across retail channels
  • Encourage repeat purchases by rewarding customers with gameplay opportunities
  • Create a more engaging and interactive customer experience
  • Collect customer data for marketing and future campaigns
  • Track campaign performance and analyse results for reporting and optimisation

The challenge is to launch quickly within a short lead time, support multiple marketing games, manage campaign rules, and provide performance data to evaluate the campaign’s success.

To achieve this, SPH used the qiksense platform to build and launch their play and win campaign using a combination of module components, including Access, Retrieve, Engage, and Reward modules.

Access Modular: Campaign Rule Management

Because the campaign was limited to 14 days and each participant could play three times, SPH used the Access module to configure campaign participation rules.

This allowed them to:

  • Control the campaign duration
  • Limit the number of plays per participant

This ensured proper campaign governance and controlled engagement throughout the campaign period.

Retrieve Modular: Customer Data Collection

To collect customer information for marketing and follow-up purposes, SPH used the Retrieve module to create a customized data collection form.

Using qiksense, SPH was able to configure their own form fields, including:

  • Name
  • Mobile number
  • Gender
  • Age group
  • Consent checkbox

This enabled SPH to collect valuable customer data while ensuring proper consent management.

Engage Modular: Marketing Game – Tower Building

Using qiksense, SPH selected a tower building marketing game and customised it to align with their sustainability and recycling campaign theme.

Participants were challenged to stack elements as high as possible to achieve the highest score.

SPH was able to:

  • Customise the game visuals with their branding and campaign theme
  • Upload custom game elements aligned with sustainability messaging
  • Add their logo and brand colours
  • Configure the leaderboard to display player rankings

The leaderboard was configured to refresh daily, allowing SPH to reward top performers each day. This created strong motivation for repeat participation.

Engage Modular: Marketing Game – Car Racing

SPH also deployed a car racing marketing game as part of the campaign.

Using qiksense, they were able to:

  • Customise game visuals to match their brand identity
  • Apply campaign colours and logo
  • Configure the leaderboard to display player rankings

This allowed SPH to run multiple marketing games simultaneously and compare engagement and performance between them.

Reward Modular: Score and Leaderboard Display

Using the Reward module, SPH was able to configure how game results were displayed after each game session. SPH chose to display the player’s game score immediately after gameplay, followed by the leaderboard ranking. This allowed participants to see how they performed compared to other players.

This created a competitive and rewarding experience that encouraged ongoing participation.

Using qiksense, SPH successfully launched a play and win gamification campaign across their retail channels, enabling customer engagement, data collection, and performance tracking within a single platform.

Delivered a Complete Play and Win Campaign

Through qiksense, SPH was able to launch a fully functional play and win experience where customers could participate in marketing games, view their scores, compete on the leaderboard, and submit their information through customised forms for data collection.

This enabled SPH to engage customers, collect valuable customer data for marketing purposes, and reward winners based on their performance, while supporting their objective of increasing Shin Min Daily News newspaper sales through retail channels.

Real-Time Campaign Performance Dashboard and Reporting

qiksense provided SPH with a real-time dashboard that presented detailed campaign performance data.

SPH was able to customize the dashboard to view key metrics such as participation rates, game performance, and leaderboard results.

This allowed SPH to:

  • Monitor campaign performance in real time
  • Generate reports for management
  • Compare performance between different marketing games
  • Analyse engagement trends and customer behaviour
  • Use insights to optimise future campaigns

The dashboard provided clear visibility into campaign effectiveness, enabling SPH to make data-driven decisions for future marketing initiatives.
